Autumn Fantasy Maple is one of our top favorite trees, and is an outstanding shade tree that is a Red and Silver Maple hybrid bringing the best qualities of both trees. The young leaves emerge with a reddish tint that turn to rich green. The fall color is an exceptionally beautiful ruby red that persists until the first hard frost. It is very drought tolerant, and makes an excellent fast growing street or lawn tree. This is an excellent landscape specimen.

It is a medium to fast growing tree especially with regular fertilization. It is a dioecious tree requiring both male and female of the species to fruit. The small fruits mature to a dark blue and are attractive to birds and wildlife. This tree has spectacular scarlet fall color. The genus name comes from Nysa or Nyssa, one of the water nymphs. It is a great all around and hardy tree growing in zones 3 - 9, and handles wetlands and forested areas well.

The Honeylocust tree is an American native specie that is a favorite of an established landscape. It makes a great shade tree. They are hardy trees for zone 6, and will grow nicely in full sun to part shade. They are also great city street trees tolerating the summer heat well.

Prunus virginiana 'Canada Red' Chokeberry is a fast growing smaller native shade tree full of colorful red/ burgundy leaves, which is a great contrast to the many green leafed trees. The abundant small fruits are also red, and are a favorite of songbirds.

Dawn Redwood is a magnificent deciduous tree. It has gorgeous soft green needles, and is a fantastic and inspiring tree to see and grow. Dawn Redwood is a magnificent deciduous tree, and is a relative of the California redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) and giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum), diverging around 150 million years ago. Dawn redwood prefers a wetter environment to grow, and it needs full sun to grow its best when it is a larger tree. We start these as 'understory' trees and they love the high open canopy above them giving the good indirect light. It does best in moist to wet soils, so it can be a good choice for large rain garden locations. As with all trees a good organic planting location would be ideal for these trees.
