Cercis canadensis – Eastern Redbud is a deciduous single or multi-trunk under-story tree well known for its stunning lavender-purple flowers which bloom profusely on bare branches in early spring (April) before the foliage and other tree flowers emerge. It has mostly upright branching with a rounded crown that typically matures at 15 feet tall.
This tree is native to eastern and central North America, and prefers a sheltered location away from strong sun and winds. You often find them growing natively along the edges of a forest to take advantage of the shade from the larger trees, but accessing the direct sunlight where it can find it as well.
Our larger Redbuds when available are 6′ – 8’+ tall. Their flowers are a gorgeous and highly appreciated welcome to spring. USDA zones 5-9
