Royal Star Magnolia is a magnificent smaller tree with beautiful exquisite flowers. It flowers in early spring and blooms best in full sun. It may eventually reach a height of 15′.- 20′. It is hardy to zone 4,
The Royal Star Magnolia blooms in late March/ April, and flowers 2 weeks later than the straight species. You do want to plant away from southern exposure to discourage early blooming as a late frost will ruin any open flowers.
It typically has up to 25 – 30 narrow strap-like tepals to form that magnificent white flower that is 4 inches across, and larger than the straight species. This tree grows at a medium rate, and performs best when planted in rich organic soil avoiding wet or dry soil extremes, and should be protected from high winds.
Royal Star is a treasured tree that will be appreciated for many years.
